In Hollywood For The TransWorld Skateboarding Awards

February 22, 2012

Last Thursday we jetted up to Hollywood for the 14th Annual TransWorld Skateboarding Awards held at the Avalon theater. This star studded affair saw some of the biggest names in skateboarding come together for a night of fun filled partying to honor the top skaters of the year, and a few past legends of the sport. Hosted by veteran emcee Brian Schaefer and the iconic Lizard King, there was literally never a dull moment. From beers being hurled on stage to Nyjah Huston taking home a plethora of trophies, this night is one to be remembered and is being hailed as the best show yet...we can't wait for next year! Check our photos from the evening and let us know who you think should have won. The scene outside the Avalon off Vine street. Once inside the bar was packed as they were dishing out $6 tall boys of PBR. Outside the red carpet was a whole other story. Here Legends Award winner Jason Jessee gets interviewed by TWS Online Editor Blair Alley. This is the upstairs bar/lounge where people could actually smoke inside-I couldn't believe it, we felt like we were back east. Inside they had this cool photo booth. Here Luis Tolentino and homeys are happy they made the journey from NYC. Our friend David Loy on the prowl. David also made quite the speech when his good friend Nyjah invited him on stage to help accept one if his many awards. Another HEX homey, Sierra Fellers was stoked to be out and about. Wes Kremer accepts the Best Rookie award. It was great to see Sal Barbier and Rob Welsh up there presenting. The view from the VIP terrace. The REAL skateboard crew won Best Team, and boy were they psyched! So deserving. The man of the evening, Nyjah Huston accepting his second award for Reader's Choice. For his third award Nyjah invited his whole crew on stage, including his mother. It was great to see Christian Fletcher present the Legend award to his good bud Jason Jessee. At the end of the evening all of the winners were invited on stage for a group photo, whether they got it or not is a complete mystery. Keeping all those guys attention was nearly impossible. Yes, it was one of those kinds of nights. Need we say more... After the awards TW premiered their new film "The Cinematographer Project" directed by Jon Holland. It was dope to see everybody stick around and this video did not disappoint. The packed house was glued to the screen for nearly an hour watching the movie. After the awards everybody headed out front where we proceeded to chill until the wee hours of the morning...what a party...
