Description

HEX has recently collaborated with respected filmer Rory Kramer to produce a signature Cinema Backpack that meets the demands of Rory’s supercharged needs.  Rory is well known for his creative and immersive style of filming and editing.  He is an adrenaline junkie who has been the videographer for anyone from Justin Bieber to The Chainsmokers.  He is also the creator of the MTV show “Dare To Live”.

Rory’s life and style fit perfectly with HEX’s design ethos of “Innovation, Authenticity, and Community” and so the partnership was born.

Rory needed a pack that could carry his cinematic gear – specifically a Canon 1DX with lens attached.  Most bags are not deep enough to accommodate this even though it is a standard go-to camera for the filming community.  He also needed a bag that would travel well on his long days of terrain trekking.  Rory has scoliosis, so designing a system of implementing additional lumbar support was key to him to reduce the load carried through his shoulders and back and re-distribute that weight onto his hips and legs, which are much larger and more stable muscle groups.  He also wanted multiple access zones for his various needs, laptop storage, and plenty of extra gear pockets.  Oh, and it had to look great.  Rory has always had great style, so this was something that could not be overlooked.

This project took over a year to bring to completion through many meetings with Rory.  Prototype designs were made and field-tested by Rory and then modifications were made from the results of those tests until we arrived at a backpack that both Rory and HEX were proud to put their names on.

Great Purchase!

One of my favorite features are the deep pockets that holds the camera. You can put a camera with battery grip attached and lens in the bag with plenty of room. Just a good back overall, very durable, big zippers, and more.

Happy but was expecting more.

I'm using this bag to carry tech gear more suited to mobile podcasting so I figured by the design and options would be a great combination. All in all... the bag is pretty good. I feel like there is a decent amount of room in it although I had to pull most of the dividers to make gear fit. I think the pads are about twice as thick as they need to be. It winds up taking almost 3" of gear space vertically and horizontally if all the dividers are in place. The external material is good, but I dont see it lasting more than a season or two with routine outdoor use. Shoulder straps are built for the thinner chested guys for sure. They easily could use 4" or more on the adjustment piece. I'm 5'9" 225 and wide shoulders so once it's on it's fine but when I loosen it to take it off it runs right to the end of the adjuster. I also worry about the attachment point at the bottom. So far so good, but I'm fearful it'll pull free one day. I pack a full 45lbs of gear in there so I might just be expecting too much...less gear I think no worries but time will tell. The exterior side pockets. Suuuuuuper tight. I wouldn't plan on putting anything in there you ever want to see again unless you have the hands of a 3 year old. Computer/iPad storage area... awesome. Easily slid 17Mac in there with iPad and chargers. no problems and easy access. Very well done. As for airline use... it fit in the overhead of a small Delta regional jet. The one that are just 4 seats wide (CRJ-700) so bigger planes are a super easy fit as well. I'd recommend a buy on this bag to a friend. All in all after one 4 day trip with a TON of gear I'd rate it a 7 out of 10
